Homebush is 15 kilometres west from the Sydney CBD, in the local government area of the Municipality of Strathfield. The suburb was originally known as Liberty Plains. The suburb is mainly a residential suburb with a small row of shops along Rochester Street. The suburb has a population of around 7,000 people, of whom the most common birthplaces after Australia are India, China, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Nepal. The suburb was built with many large houses and substantial villas. The Village of Homebush is now split between the suburbs of Homebush and Strathfield.
