Historically, the territory of this suburb was originally inhabited by the Darug speaking, Gomerrigal-Tongarra people. This is none other than North St. Marys, located in the western side of Sydney, some 47 kms from the Central Business District. A known part of the New South Wales state, this place is also considered an "extension" of St. Marys, an adjoining suburb. Records reveal that the then population of the suburb lived hunter-gatherer lives. It was typical of them to start their day hunting kangaroos and emus for meat, and native plants such as yams and berries to get their other nutrition. Later in 1816, their communities were believed to have been lessened by smallpox and conflicts with the Brits.
